When Was Baseball Invented

Although Abner Doubleday is often credited with inventing the game of baseball this is untrue. The history of baseball is actually quite murky as there have been games similar to baseball that have been played since the 18th century. Baseball appears to have drawn influence from the English games of rounders and cricket.

The first official published rules of Baseball in The United States was in 1845 by a baseball club known as the Knickerbockers. The leader of the club Alexander Catwright is referred to as “the father of baseball.” Though there is no clear inventor of baseball and historians often argue about who has the strongest claims for the invention of modern baseball.
